AUTUMN FERN (Dryopteris erythrosora)

It?s easy to remember which ferns tolerate drier shade: DRYopteris. One to look for is D. e. ?Brilliance? (pictured), which grows two feet tall and needs more sun than most to get the best effect. It has a deep coppery lustre as it thrusts out of the soil in spring, keeps some of the same tone over summer and becomes more brilliant in autumn. Zone 6.

Combine with: Hostas, especially golden forms such as ?Paul?s Glory? and the magnificent ?Sun Power?, and coralbells (Heuchera) with leaves of purple, chocolate, chartreuse or orange.
