Although this garden is original, it echoes some of the great gardens of England such as Beth Chatto?s or Sissinghurst (which Deacon only saw in person after designing his own garden), and in this glorious country setting, it seems right for both our geography and climate. ?One of the big things for me in this garden,? he says, ?is the strong sense of structure?the inevitable random elements of nature played against the clear, underlying formal structure ?something you don?t see a lot of in Canadian gardens.? It?s what makes this garden such a sensual and intellectually provocative experience.
