		<description>Marjorie:
Like yourself, I have found the &#039;closing down&#039; process rather challenging this year! The weather fluctuations here in Ontario had the plants so confused that I had a three foot stem on a Penstemon &#039;sour grapes&#039; with four deep purple blossoms! It was a rare treat!
I planted a shade garden between mine and the neighbors house and hope that everything will survive the winter. The snow this morning has foretold that it should maintain its blanket without fear of exposure to the new plantings.
I am thoroughly enjoying your Tom Deacon garden series... it is absolutely majestic in the one dimensional format offered by the magazine articles, and can only imagine what it must be like walking through the various paths. I can only hope that with the exposure your articles will surely bring that he consider doing garden tours next year.
Thank you for your informative Globe articles this past year- a new gardener like myself needs all the help he can find. I took your advise and purchased a Fothergilla gardenii - and am anxiously awaiting next season&#039;s growth and fall display.
sincerely
